Owned by Château Mongravey of Margaux, this estate is in Macau in the southern Médoc. The wine is richly fruity, firmly tannic with both wood and fruit tannin. It is dark, dense and complex, a ripe wine that has a great future. Drink from 2022. (RV)
The 2014 Château de Braude has an attractive blackberry, cedar and tobacco-scented bouquet that opens with a sense of confidence in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple and fine tannin. The acidity is well judged and it gradually builds to a lightly spiced finish that begs you back for another sip. This Haut-Médoc is worth hunting down. Tasted September 2016. (NM)
65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot. 45% new oak. Sweet spicy dark plums, generously fruited and firm but rounded tannins. Juicy and well balanced. Straightforward and nicely chewy on the finish. (JH)
