Made from 65% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre and the rest Syrah, the 2015 Esquisto has a peppery, spicy, red (and some black) fruited style that’s reminiscent of a Gigondas from the Southern Rhone Valley. This medium to full-bodied beauty picks up weight and depth with time in the glass, has notable complexity, ripe, yet present tannin, and a great finish. It has Cali fruit, yet the Gigondas comparison is even more evident with air, and it has a nicely structured, spice-focused style that’s just a joy to drink. (JebDunnuck.com)
Full body and spicy peppery flavors make this wine feel a little fiery as it delivers smoky flavors and a rather tight structure of tannins and acidity. Made with 40% whole clusters and native yeast, it shows more savory than fruity notes and delivers an earthy untamed sort of complexity. (JG)
