Bright violet. An expressive bouquet evokes ripe red and dark berries, peppery spices, potpourri and a hint of_ garrigue_. Coats the palate with juicy blackberry and bitter cherry flavors that become sweeter and more lively with air. Rich but energetic, displaying good finishing focus and gentle tannic grip. (JR)
Offers a polished, pure feel, with high-pitched cherry and damson plum fruit at the core, inlaid with violet and lavender notes. The sleek, focused finish shows a bright iron hint. Drink now through 2022. (JM)
Tasted blind. Cask sample. Some purple in the crimson here. Unusually rich nose. And without any excess green. Sweet, ripe tannins. Well mastered. Some liquorice and warmth. Very unlike most 2014s! Quite appetising on the finish. 17/20 points. (JR)
Leading off the 2014s from bottle, the 2014 Gigondas is elegant and silky, with lots of red fruits (strawberry, raspberry), spice and floral nuances in a medium-bodied, supple and elegant style. Drink it over the coming 7-8 years. (JD)
