This is pure, offering delicate cherry, raspberry, rose, graphite and stony flavors, aligned with a firm, well-integrated matrix of tannins. Persists on the lingering aftertaste. Elegant and sophisticated. (BS)
There is ample wood framing the softly earthy and very ripe aromas that are composed primarily of cassis and spiced tea. The suave, round and sappy medium weight flavors exude a fine bead of minerality on the concentrated and serious yet refined finish that displays a hint of youthful austerity. This too is quite impressive and should reward extended cellaring yet be approachable after 6 to 8 years.
Medium red-ruby. High-pitched aromas of blackberry, licorice and crushed rock. Compellingly sweet and fine-grained but with penetrating rocky minerality to its crunchy dark berry flavors. Reminded me of biting into a blueberry tart! The smooth but firm, slowly building finish displays outstanding purity and juiciness. This beauty has the sheer density of material to make its tannins virtually disappear. But I would still want to cellar this premier cru for at least a five or six years. (ST)
Ripe and juicy with berries, this structured wine also offers great fruitiness and opulence. The acidity and the tannins promise the future while the ripe fruits show the fine vintage well. This is a wine to age, best enjoyed from 2024.
The 2015 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Cailles comes from Bouchard's single hectare of vines. It has an expressive bouquet with raspberry coulis, wild strawberry and a touch of fig, nicely delineated and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, grippy raspberry and tart red cherry fruit with a touch of spice enlivening the energetic finish that is enhanced, given an edge, by the 40% whole cluster fruit. This should be worth looking out for once in bottle. (NM)
