One of the most exciting wines of the vintage, the 2016 Le Prieuré is another superb wine from the group of estates owned jointly by Paul Goldschmidt and the Artemis Group that also includes Siaurac and Vray Croix de Gay. A rich, sumptuous wine, the 2016 Le Prieuré possesses stunning depth in all of its dimensions, yet at the same time remains fresh and vibrant throughout. Potent tannins drive the finish, but they are nearly buried by the sheer intensity and luxuriousness of the fruit. A host of dark red cherry, woodsmoke, tobacco, herbs and crushed flowers build in a deeply expressive and resonant St-Émilion of the highest level. Tasted three times. (AG)
Paul Goldschmidt and Artemis (Latour) work together on this wine, with Penelope Godfroy as technical director. It has always had excellent potential that is now being realised. Soft, plush fruit and a lovely touch of austerity from the limestone, restrained but with evident power underneath. The tannins are plush and this is an expertly judged, juicy and vibrant wine in the St-Émilion signature. Planted to 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. Drinking Window 2025-2045. (JA)
Dense and minerally red with blueberry and blackberry character. Hints of licorice, too. Medium body and a juicy finish.
