Just outside the city of Montpellier lie the vineyards of La Croix Belle, a family owned and operated Domaine that traces it roots back to the region more than two centuries. Francoise and Jacques Boyer assumed contril of the property in the late 70s with an eye towards making clean expressive wines reflecting the region. A lot of replanting was done, yields were lowered and modern winemaking techniques and facilities were adopted. This eye for detail had delivered us some of the freshest and most compelling values of the season. The "Champ de Lys" is a blend of Viognier (50%), Grenache Blanc (20%), Chardonnay (20%) and Sauvignon Blanc (10%). It spends most of its time in tank but a small fraction sees a touch of oak aging. The nose shows ripe stone fruit aromas of peach and nectarine. Lacy white flowers also appear and the wine has a wonderful citrus driven finish.
