Marie and Frédéric Chauffray grow this wine on a wind-blown limestone plateau at the top of the Terraces du Larzac. The old vines, tended biodynamically, put out a gorgeously supple, floral red in 2015. Equal parts grenache and syrah with ten percent cinsault, vinified entirely in a mix of cement and stainless steel, the wine is juicy with pure berry fruit, soft grape-skin tannins lending it a gently firm grip and suede-like texture. Airy yet enveloping, it’s an elegant red to drink now with a crown roast of lamb.
This engaging, full-bodied red has a plump, polished feel to the licorice and orange zest notes lining the raspberry and currant flavors at the core. Integrated, moderate tannins linger, with mineral and floral aromas on the finish. Syrah, Grenache and Cinsault. Drink now through 2021. (GS)
