A lovely example of 2015 in the Saar. Bright, crunchy, mineral infused fruit, a zesty tang of acidity and mouth filling texture. The slatey mineral profile shimmering through in the finish. This is classic Von Hovel with a dash more roundness and power from the concentrated 2015 vintage. An exceptional value!

Weingut Von Hovel is run by Max von Kunlow, whose family has run the estate making Riesling in the Saar since they purchased the property in the mid-1950s. Max works organically, making his own compost and spreading local straw, marc and raw fertilizer throughout his vineyards. Max ferments spontaneously and has vinified this particular Riesling in stainless steel. Up front there is a flinty minerality, with hints of wet stone, apricot and white cherry. It's got some residual sugar but there is an intense, tingly acidity that really rolls across the palate like a bolt of electricity. Just delightful.

This Riesling is absolutely phenomenal for the price and something I would be happy to drink any night of the week for any occasion. It is simply delicious with a touch of sweetness and lots of fruit to showcase. It still has that great Mosel minerality and acidity to keep it bright and lifted and well balanced. This is great representation of a Riesling from the Mosel and one I would highly recommend to any wine lover.
