A blend of 84% Zinfandel, 11% Petite Sirah and 5% Barbera, aged for 12 months in neutral barrels, the 2015 Zinfandel Roman sports a deep garnet-purple color and nose of black plums, blackberries and licorice with touches of tar, charcoal, salami and Indian spices. Full-bodied with firm, slightly rustic tannins, it offers great fruit expression in the mouth with freshness and purity coming through on the long finish.
The 2015 Román is a gorgeous, Zinfandel-based red. Bright, plump and exuberant, the 2015 offers striking depth as well as freshness. This is an incredibly delicious, inviting wine. Even better, it is a tremendous value. Petite Syrah and Barbera round out the blend. Succulent red berry, spice, leather and floral notes add to the wine's silky personality. I was quite frankly blown away by the wines I tasted at Marietta this year. Brothers Scot and Jake Bilbro have decided to each concentrate on separate properties. In practical terms that means Scot is now running Marietta on his own, while Jake operates Limerick Lane. One of the recent developments at Marietta is that most of the wines are now vintage-dated, with the exception of the Old Vine, Marietta's flagship, which will remain a non-vintage blend, as it always has been. Aside from being absolutely delicious, these wines offer superb value to the consumer, something that is getting harder and harder to find. I can't recommend these wines highly enough. 84% Zinfandel, 11% Petite Sirah, 5% Barbera (AG)
