Lingua Franca, a Larry Stone/Dominique Lafon project, offers a challenging, absorbing lineup of Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs. The Avni bottling is tangy and tight, with white peach and melon fruit and hints of toasted nuts and butter. The finish extends gracefully, keeping you riveted. Editors’ Choice. —P.G.
Pale green-tinged yellow. Aromas of musky lemon pith and pear skin take on subtle chamomile, fennel and jasmine nuances as the wine unfolds. Juicy and tightly wound on the palate, offering Meyer lemon, Anjou pear and green almond flavors and a touch of sea salt that appears on the back half. At once concentrated and lithe, delivering strong closing thrust, resonating floral and mineral notes and very good persistence. (JR)
