Tasting Notes

Les Vignerons de Fontes is the cooperative winemaking facility in the hills outside the village of Pezenas in the Languedoc. Oenologist Corinne Pastourel oversees the project that has a host of growers spread throughout the region over a range of terroirs including schist, basalt, limestone and clay. Thirty of these growers formed the cooperative in the 1930s and now their numbers surpass 200. K&L co-founder Clyde Beffa met Corinne years ago and forged the relationship that would bring us some of our most popular value wines coming from the south of France. The Rosé, one of our best sellers every year, is a blend of 70% Syrah and 30% Grenache that is made in the saignée style where a light maceration occurs and the fruit is bled off the skins. The wine is fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks, preserving the freshness and cleanliness of the wine. It is bright and lively, with aromas of raspberries, redcurrants, and white flowers. The Mediterranean influence is easily felt in this region and the best cuisine for this wine is just that - Mediterranean. Serve with roasted vegetables, chickpea salad and fresh cheeses. A delight!

When you taste a lot of rosés, you start to discover that many end up being forgettable. It's clean, it's dry, it's fresh--end of story. Not this one. It goes out of its way to be bigger and fruitier than every other rosé on the block. With the roaring aromatics coming out of this glass I totally would have expected a dull, flabby wine. But instead there's this beautiful acid profile that is refreshing and invigorates the fruit profile. At $10 this is a total standout on the rosé shelf.

Our best selling Rose every year since 2009. This year could be their best to date. It is on the drier side, with a bright reddish color. Plenty of flavor and all for $9.99. It will sell quickly. I just drank a bottle of the 2014 and it was still bright and alive. Who says Rose will not age?
    Drink from 2017 to 2019
