This one really has it all. Purity of fruit, a touch of richness, length, balance and complexity. An exotic nose of orange blossoms, peaches, citrus and slate welcomes a surprisingly racy palate of more stone fruits, guava, citrus and minerals. Ostertag wound up picking nearly a month earlier than usual and the pay-off for doing so is very evident already. This is quite clearly a Grand Cru site and frankly, I'm not surprised by the exceptional quality of the wine.

I love all of the Ostertag wines, every time I have tried one I do a little happy dance in my mind. The 2015 Fronholz Riesling is yet another reason to do the aforementioned dance, it is just straight up delicious. A wonderfully rich nose with notes of honey, ripe fruit, and petrol lead to a big juice palate. This wine is bursting with peach, nectarine, and other stone fruit but the acid on it keeps it beautifully balanced throughout. The complexity of this wine means it is a great food wine while the sheer enjoyment of drinking it means I may need to get two.

Riesling is hands down one of my favorite varietals, so when I taste a Riesling that I can't stop thinking about, I have to delve into the wine and the winemaker further. The Fronholz Riesling from Andre Ostertag is just such a wine. Ostertag was trained in Burgundy and returned to his family's estate in Alsace looking to develop a biodynamic program to showcase the subtleties of his estate's terroir. The Fronholz Riesling is bright, fresh, mineral-driven deliciousness. The palate is richer and slightly full with a toned down acidity that makes this especially quaffable. It's fruity, floral and I wish I could buy an entire case, but I won't since he produces this amazing wine in such limited quantities. Just beautiful!

A stunning wine that transcends boundaries of varietal and place. This wine has such ethereal power and shimmering energy on the palate. Stunning aromatics of spiced pear, alpine flowers, bursts of citrus, jasmine and white peach. The palate is tactile and concentrated but so elegant and pure; the pristine fruit inflected with fascinating minerality and infinite length. One of the finest Rieslings I have tasted from anywhere on the planet at any price.

Full-bodied, powerful and muscular Riesling. Dry but with supple fruit of Red Delicious and Jonathan apples. Rieslings from Alsace always strike me as savory and earthy, and Fronholz Riesling is no exception. Distinctly mineral (vineyard's soil is composed of white sand, quartz, clay and marl) it speaks of place and origin. It's firmly structured with lots of freshness without too much of acidity. Drink it now and in the next 20 years!

This is a complex Riesling as it manages to be complex and intense yet delicate and subtle at the same time. I expected a very dry wine at 13.5% alcohol, but the fruit really shines through and cuts the acidity well, creating fantastic balance. One of the more interesting Rieslings I've had from this area, I would love to pick one up to drink now and one to hold to see how it develops in a few years.
