The 2015 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Clos des Porrets Saint Georges has a tightly wound, floral bouquet - hints of violet, strawberry jam, even a light smear of marmalade coming through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and is complex: a mixture or red and black fruit seamlessly knitted together, leading to a concentrated but structured, classically-styled finish with fine salinity. This comes highly recommended, a pure and crystalline Nuits St Georges from one of its best vineyards. It comes highly recommended.(NM)
While writing my profile on Domaine Gouges last year, I finally came to realize just how much I love the Clos des Porrets bottling here, and the 2015 is destined to be one of the reference point vintages of this fine cru in the years to come. This and the remainder of the cellar was still in cask and had not yet been racked. The bouquet on the 2015 Clos des Porrets is utterly superb, wafting from the glass in a classy blend of red and black cherries, plums, bitter chocolate, a great, complex base of soil tones and a touch of currant leaf in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very pure on the attack, with a rock solid core of fruit, laser-like focus and a very, very long, fine-grained and vibrant finish. This will be a stunningly elegant and sappy example of Clos des Porrets at its apogee and should prove to be a very, very long-lived wine. 2025-2075.
Firm reduction makes this hard to assess though the underlying fruit does seem ripe. There is outstanding volume and mid-palate concentration to the powerful and mouth coating middle weight flavors that exhibit a subtle minerality on the sappy, dusty, complex and beautifully persistent finish. This is a classic Nuits that is built-to-age and will need it.
Good dark red. At once darker and stricter on the nose than the Chènes Carteaux, showing a slightly rude leathery quality to its quintessential Nuits-Saint-Georges aromas of black cherry, menthol and dark chocolate. Then plush, broad and rich but without any heaviness; the deepest and most concentrated of these 2015s to this point, conveying strong inner-mouth personality to its flavors of black fruits, licorice and spices. Large-scaled yet light on its feet, this classic Nuits-Saint-Georges conveys the maturity of the year even though the vines were picked early. Firm, classy tannins extend the finish.(ST)
