Pansa Blanca is a local variety of Xarel-lo grapes grown in decomposed granite soils north of Barcelona. Since the coastal real estate up here is scarce, and expensive, there are not many wineries in this smaller D.O., though the wines can be quite delicious indeed. Brightly citric, a touch floral and saline, redolent of meyer lemon and waxy yellow fruit, the Raventos d'Alella Panasa Blanca is a delicious introduction to the refreshing whites of this region.
