A relatively reserved and slightly more elegant array features notes of both red and dark berries, spice and tea hints. The suggestion of elegance by the nose is confirm by the palate as the unusually refined middle weight flavors possess good detail and almost no rusticity on the saline inflected finale. While this could benefit from a few years of age it won't be absolutely required.
The 2013 Chassagne-Montrachet Vieilles Vignes (Rouge) comes from six parcels aged around 45 years. It has a simple, crisp, but slightly “aloof” nose that needs to muster a touch more charm. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp chalky tannins and firm grip, but it seems very austere on the finish.(NM)
Firm and unyielding now, hinting at black cherry, earth and spice flavors, with moderate length. Needs time to loosen up. Best from 2017 through 2023.
