Decanter Gold Medal Winner 2017 Decanter World Wine Awards, 50% Carmenère, 25% Carignan, 25% País Tasting notes: Youthful nose with floral notes, jammy strawberries and raspberries. Crisp refreshing acidity and lovely tannin structure that support the purity of fruit. Modern and attractive wine.
A fruity red with a linear backbone of acidity that makes the wine fresh and vivid. Medium body. Drink now. A blend of carmenere, carignan and pais.
This is half carménère blended with carignan and país. It feels bright, filled with red fruit and spices floating over a layer of dense tannins. A luminous wine for roast turkey.
The blend of the 2016 Canto Sur is the same as in 2015—50% Carménère and 25% each Cariñena and País. Both this and the Canto Norte are bottled unoaked, this one after four months in concrete tanks. It's very fruit-driven and fresh, with very fine tannins and a pleasant mouthfeel. It developed more Mediterranean aromas of aromatic herbs after some time in the glass. A lovely red blend. 30,000 bottles produced. Christian Sepúlveda, who used to work for Tabalí in Limarí, is the new winemaker at J Bouchon; his wines start with the 2016 vintage. The change that started in 2014 continues, and they are now also working with old vines País and Semillon. There are some really exciting wines here. This is certainly a name to follow. It's not a boutique operation, as they produce around one million bottles per vintage.(LG)
