The 2015 Roussanne L'Avion is very beautiful and subtle, with striking varietal character and nuance, but no excess heaviness. Apricot, peach, chamomile and lightly honeyed notes are pushed forward in this delicious, super-expressive Viognier from Stolpman. With time in the glass, the wine gains in precision and focus. This is very nicely done. (AG)
A deeper gold color and obviously hazy, the 2015 L'Avion was completely barrel fermented and I suspect bottled unfiltered. Despite the seemingly slightly off color, it has a terrific bouquet of sautéed apricot, tangerine and orange blossom. Viognier-like with its exotic aromas and flavors, it's ripe, textured and layered on the palate, with a soft, forward texture. While the white l’Avion was slightly head scratcher, these are some of the best wines to date from Stolpman Vineyards. (JebDunnuck.com)
