This exquisitely rare mezcal from Tamaulipas is one of the finest expressions of agave and one of the only products to make it out of the violence stricken region in Northwestern Mexico. Maestro Mezcalero Cuauthemoc Jacquez harvests, roasts and distills three wild agave to create this unique small batch mezcal. Two of these special plants, Agave Univittata and Funkiana, are native to the semi-arid desert that stretches from the Sierre de San Carlos to oceanic climate to the northwest. The third agave, Americana is known well in it's Oaxacan varietals (Coyote, Arroqueno, Cenizo, etc.), but thrives across much of North America. Locally known as San Carlos, Lechuguilla and Jarcia, these hand harvest agave and roasted in conical stone pits over local black oak. The distiller uses mechanical mill and ferments in stainless steel with wild yeast before being distilled on old school copper pots over open flame. The result is a unique expression of the special terroir of Northwestern Mexico. A nuanced, fruity, linear and extremely authentic spirit of extreme complexity.
