A markedly floral nose of notably ripe but fresh red and dark currants is liberally laced with distinctly earthy and sauvage elements that are also trimmed in moderate toast. There is excellent size, weight and muscle to the energetic and much more mineral-driven flavors that coat the palate with dry extract on the very serious, youthfully austere and beautifully long finale. This is certainly built-to-age but it's not so imposing that it might not be possible to enjoy this after only 5 to 7 years of bottle age if desired though note that it should amply reward 15 to 20.
The 2015 Corton les Renardes Grand Cru is 100% whole cluster fruit matured in one used barrel. The nose is initially more backward, but very pure. Perhaps a little timid at first, but it opens with candied red fruit, a touch of crushed rose petal and fine mineralité. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, beautifully balanced with the acidity lending edginess on the concentrated finish that lingers long in the mouth. Excellent. (NM)
