A bit earthy, with ripe plum and hints of vanilla. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long, long finish. Shows sweet, succulent fruit, with lots of wood. (JS, Web-2007)
Prunotto's 1996 Barolo Bussia is a spectacular, full-bodied, rich wine displaying scents of rose petals, tobacco, black fruits, cedar, and toasty French oak. Ripe, moderately tannic, dense, and chewy, it requires 2-3 years of cellaring, and should evolve easily for 15-20 years. (RP)
Good full red. Red berries, menthol and a musky floral nuance on the nose; more precise than the '96 normale Big, rich and layered, with ripe flavors of cherry, marzipan and smoke nicely framed by penetrating acidity. Dense and smooth. Finishes with big, rich tannins. Here the oak (mostly large casks but also 5% new barriques) serves to freshen and frame the wine fruit. (ST)
