Sweetly ripe morellos cherries such as one found in the corresponding 2006 fill the nose and mouth from Boillot’s 2008 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles, which also evinces an especially savory if elusive meatiness and the piquancy of fruit pits. Sappy and vibrant through to its long finish, this superb evocation of an under-rated site should be worth attending to for at least a decade. (DS)
(from four parcels averaging 50 to 55 years of age) Bright red-ruby. Pure, fresh aromas of black cherry and spices. Not yet complex in the mouth, but sappy, spicy and young, with good grip if not the finesse of the last two examples from Pommard. With aeration, notes of raspberry and iron emerged. A rather cool style, with strong acidity, but finishes with very good breadth and length. And impressive for village wine. (ST)
The considerable altitude of this site is evident as the pure, airy and very cool red fruit aromas attest and the coolness continues in the form of considerable restraint to the stony, supple and beautifully detailed middle weight flavors that are at present on the edgy side but the underlying phenolics seem ripe enough that this should harmonize.
