K&L Notes

This fantastic new release from NZ wine legend Kevin Judd is flat out delicious and a smoking deal with our hot pricing that's too good to publish. For two decades Kevin Judd was the founding winemaker and guiding genius behind Cloudy Bay. He is one of the most respected, experienced and talented winemakers in the southern hemisphere. Greywacke is consistently one of the best producers in Marlborough, crafting reasonably priced top-tier wines with beautiful purity and delineation. Vivid strawberry, fresh cherry, and pie crust greet the nose, followed by a subtle, smoky characteristic to dissuade any notion of sweetness. Silky smooth tannins reveal warm tobacco and baking spice notes, followed by a dose of fresh minerality. Seamlessly integrated acidity lifts the fruit and keeps it ever-present, especially during the long, deeply satisfying finish.

Such an interesting bottle of Pinot... Black cherries, spicy cola, and lots of tobacco supported by earthy tones. All of these beautiful flavors intertwine perfectly on the palate with a touch of edginess. This is a great bottle for "spicy" Pinot lovers who are stuck in California or Burgundy lovers who want something different on the table for Thanksgiving.

A great balance between flavors of fruit and earth here. I love the spice and smoky notes on the nose, the combo of tart cherries and ripe blackberries on the palate and the perfect amount of acid on the finish.

This is a great alternative to Domestic Pinot Noir for people looking to expand their scope and knowledge. Fruit-forward and soft on the oak, this Pinot is approachable, yet shows enough body and structure to keep it from being flabby. A great one to try if you've found other NZ wines to be too high in acid in the past.

Another sure fire winner from the inimitable Kevin Judd. For those of you that haven't come across the Greywacke wines they are the new(ish) passion project from longtime Cloudy Bay winemaker Kevin Judd. Though the man himself is very modest and softly spoken, the wines are some of the most highly regarded in New Zealand and their unwavering quality consistently illustrates the skill and experience Kevin has that few can rival. This 2014 Pinot Noir is simply delicious. It delivers everything I want in Pinot - alluring aromatics, sensuous texture, an ever so slightly untamed wild character and beautiful line and length. We have committed to Kevin's Pinot Noir time and time again and have never been anything short of thrilled when we get them in the glass! Not to mention the sharpest pricing we've ever had on this latest offering.
