In 1979, Joyce Black and Jerre Sears purchased their property on Howell Mountain, and for decades, this pair has sold fruit to some of the Napa Valley's best wineries. In 1988, the duo created their first wine under the Howell Mountain Vineyards label, before launching Black Sears Estate in 1997. The signature of the estate is the farming practices of the Black Sears family, who implement biodynamic and organic principles to create wines that aim to express the terroir of Howell Mountain.
