Made from 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre, the 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape Réserve comes from two terroirs: la Crau and la Grenade. It’s aged 60% in foudre and the rest in larger oak tanks. Elegant, medium to full-bodied, with ripe tannic structure, it has lots of scorched earth, darker berry fruits, smoked herbs and licorice aromas and flavors. It’s not a massive wine, but it shines for its purity and length. (JD)
Vibrant ruby. Energetic red and dark berry aromas are complemented by suggestions of candied flowers, licorice and incense. Juicy blackberry, boysenberry and floral pastille flavors deepen and spread out steadily as the wine opens up. Concentrated yet lithe, with distinct freshness and smooth tannins providing shape to a long, fragrant finish. (JR)
Alluring, with racy raspberry coulis, cassis and red licorice fruit forming the core, all infused with rooibos tea and incense notes. Pretty minerality gilds the finish, which is stylish and lengthy. Approachable already, but there's no rush. Drink now through 2030. (JM)
The 2015 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Réserve (80% Grenache and 10% each of Syrah and Mourvèdre) has more going for it, with lots of currants, cherries, olive and peppery herbs aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, supple, and silky on the palate, with fine tannin, it's a forward, delicious 2015 that I'd happily drink anytime over the coming 7-8 years. (JebDunnuck.com)
