The full-bodied, powerful, pure 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is another outstanding effort revealing notes of spring flowers, toasty oak, creme de cassis, licorice, and graphite. One would have to go back to the 1990, 1991, 2001, or 2002 to find a Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve this impressive. The 2007 should evolve for 20-25 years. 95+ (RP)
Bright medium ruby. Inky blueberry and dark chocolate aromas are slightly porty and liqueur-like but not roasted or oxidative. Plush, thick, powerful and pure, showing uncommon breadth to the flavors of cassis, violet and bitter chocolate. Finishes with substantial sweet tannins and outstanding slowly mounting length. This wine is getting better and better. 93+ (ST)
Blackberry jam on the nose, with hints of vanilla and licorice. Full and jammy, with a slightly hollow center palate, but I enjoy the velvety texture. Will be better if you pull the cork after 2013.
There's much to admire here and plenty to chew on, with the core serving up a mix of mocha-laced currant, raspberry, anise and cedar flavors. The substantial tannins are rich and present, but this has room to grow. Drink now through 2024. (JL, Web Only-2017)
