In 2013 this is indisputably more elegant than the Criots with its aromas of lemon grass, spiced pear, exotic tea and acacia blossom scents. There is a lush but vibrant mouth feel to the broad-shouldered, intense and muscular flavors that retain a lovely sense of refinement on the impressively persistent and well-balanced finish. In contrast to the more accessible aspect of the Criots this is more tightly constructed and will need at least several years of bottle age first.
Aromas of lime and acacia blossom fit neatly into peach and apple flavors. As this expressive white unfolds on the palate, a stony edge works into the finish. Best from 2017 through 2024. 35 cases imported. (BS, Web Only-2016)
Tasted blind at the annual “Burgfest” tasting in Bouilland. The 2013 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru was showing some sulfur issues on the nose though these seems to be addressed with aeration in the glass. Underneath lies quite an attractive and complex bouquet with tinned apricot and citrus notes, yellow flowers and honeysuckle becoming more evident. The palate is well balanced with vibrant citrus fruit, well judged acidity, impressive weight in the mouth with a spicy finish. I feel this is just beginning to come out of its shell since last year.
