This is a producer to watch. Bernardetta Tacconi’s winery, called Amantis, is situated on the south side of the Orcia River in Southern Tuscany; the Orcia is the southern boundary of Brunello di Montalcino. The 1990s saw an incredible land boom in this region, which is called Montecucco. Folks were hoping it could be the next Brunello, with vineyards at decidedly lower prices. Amantis' "Birbanera" Montecucco Rosso sure packs a lot of ripe Sangiovese and seductive spice aroma and flavors into an affordable and delicious bottle. Primarily Sangiovese the blend is enhanced with a little Merlot and Canaiolo which bring body and lush fruit to complement Sangiovese's energy and high tone.
