This is easily the most complex wine in the range with a wonderfully broad and deep nose that reflects notes of cassis, black raspberry, stone and the hallmark spiciness of a fine Clos de Bèze. There is an impressive amount of dry extract to the mouth coating big-bodied flavors that possess a seductively textured mid-palate before culminating in a tension-filled, balanced and linear finish. It's clear that this is still extremely young and while my scores always try to take future development into account, this is one wine that possesses so much underlying material that it's possible that time will prove me too conservative.
The 2010 Chambertin-Clos de Beze shows plenty of muscle in its dark red fruit, minerals, mint and licorice. The Beze is naturally very tightly wound, but there is more than enough depth and density to think it will be marvelous over time. The tension and energy of the finish are fabulous. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030. (AG)
