89-92 points Robert Parker: "An outstanding effort from Stephane Derenoncourt, Prieure-Lichine’s 2004, which appears to be even better than the 2003, exhibits a dark ruby/purple color in addition to a gorgeous bouquet of flowers, black fruits, spicy oak, and damp earth. Medium-bodied with superb concentration, wonderful elegance, and a layered, intense persistence on the palate, it should be drinkable in 2-3 years, and last for 16 or more." (06/06) According to Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(55% cabernet sauvignon, 40% merlot and 5% petit verdot) Good saturated medium ruby. Aromatic nose of blackberry, violet and licorice. Suave on entry, then juicy, bright and intense, with nicely delineated black fruit and spice flavors of moderate ripeness. Finishes with serious but well-buffered tannins and good length. Consultant Stephane Derenoncourt is helping to increase quality here by working only with 45 or so of this huge property's 79 hectares of vines, and eliminating from the final blend most of the fruit from acreage added by Alexis Lichine in the 1970s and 1980s." ( May/Jun 05) According to the Wine Spectator: "Chewy, with blackberry and wet earth character. Full-bodied, with angular tannins and a toasty oak and fruit finish. Lots of tobacco..." (01/05)
