Similar to the Domaine des Grands Chemins, yet with additional structure, the inky purple/ruby colored 2013 Crozes Hermitage le Clos has lots of minerality in its smoky, meaty, dark fruited profile. Medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated, structured yet balanced, give it 2-4 years of cellaring and enjoy over the following decade or more. 93+ points. (JD)
Opaque ruby. Deep-pitched aromas of fresh black and blue fruits, peppery spices, olive and smoky minerals, and a suave floral quality that builds in the glass. Fleshy and sweet on the palate, displaying excellent clarity and thrust to the dark berry and violet pastille flavors. The floral note repeats strongly on a very long, focused finish framed by velvety, building tannins. Claire Darnaud (co-winemaker with Jacques Grange) thinks the 2013s 'will enjoy a very long life on their freshness.' (JR)
