This is aromatically similar to the Auxey villages but with better depth though there is notably more volume, richness and mid-palate concentration along with a good level of dry extract, all wrapped in a firmly structured and lingering finale where the only nit is a hint of warmth. This is worth considering provided you can allow it a few years of cellar time first.
The Taupenot family’s Auxey Premier Cru bottling is more black fruity in 2015 than the villages, offering up a fine bouquet of black cherries, dark berries, woodsmoke, pigeon, soil and just a touch of new wood. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, focused and vibrant, with a good core and impressive mineral drive on the long and gently tannic finish. This is still pretty primary in personality, but will be lovely with a bit of bottle age. 2021-2050.
The 2015 Auxey Duresses 1er Cru comes from two parcels in Les Duresses and Les Grands Champs. It has a very satisfying bouquet with lifted blackberry, briary and light earthy notes. There is a light floral note developing. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, very well balanced with tart red cherry and cranberry leaf, nicely structured with a brisk, lively finish.(NM)
(the crop level here was about 45 hectoliters per hectare, according to Romain Taupenot): Good medium red. Higher-pitched on the nose than the village Auxey-Duresses, offering aromas of raspberry, minerals and flowers plus a touch of earth. Then juicy and penetrating in the mouth, showing good density of material and salty minerality. More sappy material here to support the firm tannins.(ST)
