Starting out the whites and a real “Wow” wine, the 2011 Chardonnay Belle De Jour Hilliard Bruce Vineyard (aged 16 months in 45% new French oak) has a knockout, white Burgundy-styled profile with clean Chardonnay fruit (apple, citrus), edgy minerality, toast and hints of nuttiness all emerging from the glass. Medium to full-bodied, supremely pure and detailed, with juicy, yet integrated acidity and a great finish, it should be even better in another year and evolve gracefully for upwards of a decade. (JD)
