This particular bottle of 1996 Auxey-Duresses rouge from Monsieur Coche was showing beautifully at one of my tastings and was a great delight to drink. I am a huge fan of this bottling and buy it in depth for my cellar whenever I cross paths with it, as I find it one of the most versatile reds at the table to be found anywhere in the Côte d’Or. This bottle was at its apogee and absolutely singing, offering up a great nose of sappy red cherries, beetroot, coffee, beautiful soil tones, mustard seed and a nice dollop of new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and complex, with a very good core of fruit, melting tannins, tangy acids and lovely length and grip on the sappy and focused finish that closes with a lovely note of beetroot. A lovely showing. (Drink between 2011-2020) 91+ points
