K&L Notes

Château Tour Saint Christophe is located in St-Christophe-des-Bardes at the border of St-Émilion. The vineyard is unique as it is partly planted on narrow terraces and tended in tight rows. The cascading landscape unfolds on the hillside of Cassevert overlooking the St-Laurent valley. The property is home to beautiful centuries-old dry stone terraces on a clay-limestone terroir. About 1.5 km of dry-stone terraces have been repaired by hand, a two-year process. The vineyard, with vines of an average age of 30 years, is orientated south-southwest and benefits from an ideal exposure to sun and perfect natural drainage conditions. Les Terrasses de Saint Christophe is the second label of Château Tour Saint Christophe.

I sometimes help customers either bewildered by the the sheer number of Saint-Émilions - Grand Cru or otherwise - or certain that they will have to pay a fortune for a decent bottle. I understand their cautiousness, and more often than not I show them this bottle. It certainly isn't pricey, and it is unquestionably good. Here we have a 2nd wine from a Grand Cru estate that delivers the quintessential flavors of the appellation if not its upmost complexities. Cherry and cocoa, with a dusty, earthy minerality, framed by nicely ripe tannins. Ready to be enjoyed with any meat dishes or those delicious fall roasted vegetables.

The 2nd wine of Saint Christophe is earthy, smooth, rich and filled with blueberry and cherry fruit. This shows a deft touch of limestone and ripe tannins that will stand up to hearty food and allow for a short time in the cellar. Great value here.

A perfect score for value vs quality. We tasted this wine on our April 2007 trip. This is the second wine of Tour St Christophe which is a rising star in Bordeaux. Fantastic aromas of blackberries, flowers, earth, and blueberries. Medium to full body, firm and silky tannins and a flavorful finish. Absolutely delicious wine now with decanting and it will cellar well for several years. Unfortunately most all of the 2017 vintage was lost because of a devastating frost in St Emilion.
    Drink from 2017 to 2025
