The 2012 Grande Cuvée is an Agiorgitiko aged in a 50/50 mixture of new and used French oak. I've been this way before–this brand often seeming tart and simple on release, with overly modest concentration. That said, over and again they've fooled me with how well they develop and age. They are hard to taste young, but they age well. This seems to be on the same path. It is not terribly interesting now, although its crisp demeanor and silky texture are appealing. If you're a Burgundy fan, it won't offend. I'm willing to bet, though, that in a few years this will put on a little weight and come together well. Meanwhile, some conservatism is appropriate, even with optimism in the background. They age well, so there is no rush. (MS)
Sweet tannins and sweet black cherry fruit fill the center of this wine, dark and concentrated. Whether it will ever be able to grow out of its substantial oak influence is the question: that wood is raw and sappy, and the vanilla sweetness drowns out the fruit. Give it another few years in the cellar, and open with a thick-cut grilled steak.
