This is really quite pretty with ripe but not roasted red berry fruit, underbrush, game and red currant aromas. There is reasonably good density to the delicious and solidly complex medium-bodied flavors that exhibit a trace of minerality on the attractively persistent and palate coating finish. The supporting tannins are both phenolically mature as well as well-integrated which allows it to be accessible yet make no mistake, this should age well if desired. In sum, this offers fine if not truly exceptional quality.
Deep red with ruby tones. Black and blue fruits, violet and licorice on the nose, along with a musky meaty nuance and some roasted oak. Concentrated, juicy and tangy, showing good volume and pliancy to the blackberry, blueberry and violet flavors. Just a touch of dryness on the back. (ST)
The 2009 Charmes-Chambertin (from vines in Mazoyeres) is a big, rich wine. This is a relatively open Grand Cru with plenty of fruit and an expansive, plush personality. The warmth of the vintage comes through in the jammy, sweet fruit. Overall, this is a pretty simple wine in its category. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. (AG)
