A much more restrained nose of cool and solidly complex red berry fruit is trimmed in a very pretty touch of clove and anise that merges seamlessly into detailed and admirably pure middle weight flavors that possess good if not great depth on the dusty, dry (in the best sense) and clean finish.
The 2009 Chambolle-Musigny Les Borniques is another expressive, textured wine. It is a bit more focused and driven than the Charmes but nearly as engaging. This parcel has been farmed biodynamically since 2008. Les Borniques is a small vineyard that sits next to Musigny. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2027. (AG)
Good medium red. Pungent aromas of red raspberry, spices and smoky minerality. Spicy, lightly saline and concentrated, with a lush texture to its complex flavors of red fruits, wild herbs and soil. Finishes classically dry and long, with a chewy impression of extract and an intriguing balsamic note. I like the combination of fruit and soil tones here. (ST)
