In 1967, Freemark Abbey was purchased by seven partners who set the stage for a new era of creativity and innovation in winemaking. One of the visionaries was winemaker Brad Webb, formerly of Hanzell Vineyards, who immediately put into place improvements in both the vineyards and the winery. Since then Freemark Abbey has been a Napa Valley icon, and gained notoriety following the 1976 Judgment of Paris tasting, in which Freemark Abbey was the only winery with both a red and a white wine entered in the competition. The 1989 vintage is the continuation of this long tradition of Napa Valley quality and history.
