Dark ruby-red. Pungent aromas and flavors of blackberry, cassis, kirsch, crushed stone and violet convey a hint of chocolatey ripeness. Offers superb density and sweetness for village wine, with enough acidity to give shape and juiciness to the fruit. Finishes with substantial chewy tannins and sappy, palate-staining flavors of black raspberry, bitter chocolate and spices. With its sneaky length, this looks to be an outstanding village wine.(ST)
A spicy and markedly floral nose blends aromas of red currant, raspberry and sandalwood. There is better underlying energy and punch to the relatively powerful and concentrated flavors that also display noticeable warmth on the detailed and mildly austere finale.
The 2015 Vosne AC from the Mugnerets is cut from a similar stylistic cloth as the Bourgogne, but with more breed and inherent elegance also in evidence. The bouquet is ripe, pure and chocolaty in profile, wafting from the glass in a perfumed blend of black raspberries, black cherries, chocolate, a touch of gamebird and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and voluptuous on the attack, with a sappy core, ripe, seamless tannins and lovely focus and grip on the very long, fruit-driven finish. Despite the generosity of beautiful fruit tones here, this wine is nicely cool and classy in the mouth. (Drink between 2016-2035)
The 2015 Vosne Romanee Villages comes from vines located just behind the Mugneret’s winery in Vosne and it was matured 25% new wood. It has a very harmonious bouquet with black cherries, wild strawberry, iodine and faint hints of cassis. The palate is medium-bodied with sweet, juicy tannin counterbalanced by fine acidity, fanning out with quite an opulent and generous, candied finish. I envisage this being delicious in its youth and difficult to resist.(NM)
