An aromatic style of Barolo, laced with cherry, plum, leather and cigar aromas and flavors. There is plenty of sweet fruit, flesh and a dense matrix of tannins, echoing tobacco notes and picking up a mineral edge on the long aftertaste. Very complex and fresh. (BS)

Succulent and full bodied, the firmly structured palate delivers raspberry compote, ripe Marasca cherry, baking spice and pipe tobacco framed in youthfully assertive but noble tannins and bright acidity. The 2013 Barolo Prapò is the most powerful and dense of the four Schiavenza Barolos I tasted. Firm tannins enshroud a core of dark fruit as this imposing Barolo shows off its Serralunga muscle. The 2013 is a bit burly and rough around the edges, but it, too, offers quite a bit of potential. (AG)
