*Sweet Spot, Outstanding* A notably ripe yet elegant and admirably pure nose features both hints of stone and earth that can also be found on the detailed, precise and energetic middle weight flavors that possess relatively fine tannins and excellent length. There is good buffering sap and I very much like the balance of this classy effort.
Perfumed - sweet oak and dark fruit and white pepper. Expressive. Both juicy and savoury, though the oak is quite dominant at the moment. Quite tight and firm compared with many in this vintage but not at all harsh. Lots of spice on the long finish. (JH)
Medium red. Slightly reduced aromas of raspberry, chocolate, menthol and Asian spices. Supple and sweet but a bit youthfully disjointed, with the combination of menthol, spice and herb notes and strong acidity giving the back half a slightly sour quality today. Tannins are fairly light, though. This gained some weight with extended aeration, suggesting that it will benefit from several years in the cellar. (ST)
