Shea Cellars’ principle bottling, 2008 Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard, is delightfully scented with confitured red raspberry alluringly accented by carob, coffee, cardamom, and bittersweet allusions to herbal concentrates and floral perfume. The palate delivers on the complexity pointed to by the nose, supplying more than enough sense of primary sap and juiciness; and even if the finish is a bit less energetic or emphatic than what went before had led me to hope, this still lingers lusciously and complexly, its undertone of mocha and sweetness of fruit teaming with refined tannins for a soothing effect. Bright and jazzy, delivering its cherry and raspberry fruit with a swipe of licorice and pepper, lingering nicely on the lively finish. (HS)
