Marchesi di Barolo (which used to be known as Opera Pia Barolo) is one of the region's most historic wineries. Marchesi Falletti was a former proprietor of the estate in the early 1800s and is widely considered to be the creator of what is now known as Barolo. The wines made here have always been Nebbiolos of great breed and complexity. The 1947 vintage was considered one of the great Barolo vintages of the 20th century.
