Here the expressive and slightly riper nose is compositionally similar to that of the Bourgogne but with the addition of a hint of matchstick character. There is impressive richness to the concentrated and relatively full-bodied flavors that possess a caressing mouth feel before culminating in a sappy and persistent finish. This isn't classically styled but it is delicious and a wine that should also drink well early on.
The 2014 Chassagne Montrachet Village Blanc has a smudge of honey and vanilla pod on the nose, generous, if lacking mineralité. The palate is better with a satisfactory thread of acidity, light citrus fruit segueing into a more tertiary and slightly austere finish. It is really just the aromatics that let the side down here. I wonder whether further barrel maturation would have enhanced this?(NM)
Pale color. Typical Chassagne aromas of pear and white flowers. Round on entry, then firm in the mid-palate, showing good energy and cut to its perfumed flavors of stone fruits, flowers and wild herbs. Just a touch aggressive on the finish but not overly dry. A solid village wine with good lift.(ST)
