The medium-to-dark ruby-colored 1998 Corton-Renardes is awesome. Its profound dark cherry aromas lead to a medium-to-full-bodied, broad, and complex core of red cherries, spices, plums, and vanilla-infused oak. This expansive wine is deep, well-balanced, velvety-textured, and has a long, flavor-packed finish. (PR)
Ruby-red, less deep than Leroy's '98 Gevrey-Chambertin Combottes. Expressive, complex aromas of black cherry, black raspberry, smoke and gunflint. Imposing on the palate; an extraordinary combination of flavor intensity and sheer breadth. In a rather youthfully aggressive phase today and not yet showing its adult shape. Finishes very long, with big, ripe tannins. A wine of huge potential. (ST)
Intensely sauvage and animale in all respects with a big, rich and gamy black fruit nose that leads to big yet remarkably fine flavors that possess plenty of structure yet superb mid-palate buffering sap. This is most promising and should be capable of 10 to 15 years of improvement.
