An incredible effort, the 2012 Côtes du Roussillon Villages Tautavel Silex is made from a mix of Syrah, Grenache and Carignan, all from old vines, that was brought up in tank. Reminding me of Clos des Papes’s 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape in a blind tasting, it offers rocking notes of kirsch liqueur, spice, garrigue and cedar to go with a medium to full-bodied, elegant and seamless feel on the palate. This is high class all the way and a gorgeous wine. Standing for Les Vignerons de Tautavel, VTV is one serious co-op based in the village of Tautavel, in the northern part of the Roussillon. (JD)
