The 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape Vendange checks in as a blend of 80% Grenache and 10% each of Syrah and Mourvèdre that was raised mostly in concrete tanks, with just 10% in barrel. Plums, blackberries, licorice, hints of pepper and smoked herbs all emerge from this full-bodied, fruit forward, beautifully textured Châteauneuf du Pape that has solid underlying structure. It will keep for 10-15 years. If you haven’t figured it out yet, Stephane Vedeau’s La Ferme du Mont is one of the up and coming superstars of the Southern Rhône. Moreover, don’t miss his Côtes du Rhône releases, or his Clos Bellane releases, for that matter—both of which fly under the radar. (JD)
