The flagship is the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Château Sixtine, and it's a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre brought up in barrel. Black and blue fruits, graphite, licorice and pot roast like nuances all emerge from this huge, unctuous, concentrated beauty that tick s all the pleasure boxes. Despite its richness level, it stays balanced and pure. Reminding me slightly of an improved 2003, don't miss it.
Lurid ruby-red. Powerful red berry liqueur and Asian spice aromas open with air and pick up suggestions of succulent flowers and smoky minerals. Intense, palate-staining, appealingly sweet raspberry, cherry and floral pastille flavors are lifted and sharpened by a jolt of white pepper. At once vibrant and concentrated, finishing extremely long and delivering powerful red fruit thrust, supple tannins and lingering florality. (JR)
