Violets, lavender, menthol and blue/purplish-hued fruits emerge from the 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers. Deep, pliant and exceptionally polished, the Cazetiers comes across as impeccably balanced today. Lifted aromatics balance the sumptuous fruit in an expressive, textured Cazetiers long on finesse.(AG)
This is more deeply pitched still with an exceptionally fresh nose that is classic Gevrey with its array of animale, dark berry, humus and pungent earth scents. There is that lovely sense of underlying tension adding lift to the mineral-inflected, muscular and powerful middle weight flavors that deliver very fine length on the more structured finish. This isn't necessarily better or more interesting than the Lavaut but the texture is definitely different as it's more robust. A qualitative choice.
Healthy deep red. Sexy red cherry and smoked meat on the nose, lifted by a floral topnote. Dense, sappy red fruit flavors show a distinctly primary quality and good juicy cut. Firmly built, youthful wine with good density and thrust.(ST)
The 2013 Cazetiers chez Rousseau was also showing very well, wafting from the glass in a blend of cassis, currant leaf, game, dark soil tones, a bit of bonfire and espresso. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, long and very elegant out of the blocks, with a fine core of fruit, lovely transparency and a fine sense of reserve on the long, ripely tannic and beautifully balanced finish. (Drink between 2022-2055).
