The 2015 Côte Rôtie Les Rochins comes all from the same named lieu-dit which is brown schist soils. It’s mostly destemmed (there’s 20% stems) and sees 21 months in French oak. Loaded with smoky, meaty, barbecue notions, full-bodied, ripe, and sexy, with a core of blackberry and raspberry fruit, this terrific 2015 has sweet tannin, no hard edges, and a great finish. Like a lot of 2015s, it’s already hard to resist, yet is going to cruise for 15 years or more.
From a lieu-dit adjoining La Landonne and Côte Rozier, the 2015 Cote Rotie les Rochins shows remarkable purity of fruit. The cassis waves come crashing down terraced slopes in a rich, velvety wave. It's a bit jammy, in the character of the vintage, but what did you expect? It should drink well through its 20th birthday. (JC)
Lurid ruby. Powerful, smoke- and spice-accented blueberry, cherry and violet aromas show excellent delineation and pick up olive and allspice notes with air. Sweet and broad on the palate, offering pliant dark berry liqueur and floral pastille flavors and a suggestion of spicecake. The impressively long finish features bright, minerally cut, an echo of sappy blue fruit and velvety tannins that come in late. (JR)
